Toulon by private jet

Estimated flight time from Paris : 1h30

Nestled at the foot of Mount Faron, which rises to 584 meters, Toulon, the capital of the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, is a dynamic city that retains the Provençal charm typical of the area’s towns and villages. A prime tourist destination, it’s ideally located on the coast. Come lose yourself in its gorgeous lanes and browse its designer boutiques!

Toulon is split between a modern city to the north and the old town to the south, famed for its little squares, the bustling cours Lafayette market, and its many fountains. You’ll also find fountains in the heart of the modern city, like the famous Fontaine de la Fédération by sculptor Allar, inaugurated in 1889 for the centenary of the Republic.

Along Cronstadt Quay, facing the Darse Vielle, shops and cafés attract strollers from morning till night. With water of brilliant blue reflecting a bright, intense light, Toulon’s harbor—framed by cream- and ochre-toned buildings—makes a striking scene. To the east, the coastline extends into four sandy or pebbly coves popular with swimmers: Plage du Mourillon. It’s the ideal spot to relax in the sun or try your hand at watersports. Continue your seaside walk to discover other natural beaches where you can lay your towel: the Méjean and Magaud coves. To get there, take the coastal customs path starting at the Tour Royale. Originally used to monitor the shoreline, this tree-lined trail passes Fort Saint-Louis and its charming little harbor and winds through a multitude of coves with crystal-clear waters. It offers unmatched views over the roadstead, the Giens Peninsula, and the Hyères Islands. And don’t miss market day during your stay! Head to the cours Lafayette to discover the colorful, fragrant stalls of local producers.

Embark on a harbor tour by boat at sunset. Amid golden reflections and sun-lit façades, you’ll spot the impressive arsenal and logistics base of the French Navy—because Toulon is, above all, a city with a military past.

This history stretches back centuries to construction of the Darse Vielle, begun under King Henry IV. The arsenal—dedicated to building and repairing the royal fleet—was established there. Handed over to the British by royalists in 1793, Toulon also witnessed the first exploits of a young, then-unknown captain: Napoleon Bonaparte. Up to the 19th century, Toulon was the departure and arrival port for colonial and military expeditions to the African continent.
Today, many places testify to the city’s military identity: the Tour Royale, a 16th-century defensive work; Place d’Armes, designed by Colbert for troop reviews; the Musée-Mémorial du Débarquement de Provence; and the Musée de la Marine. There you’ll see the monumental Arsenal gate, composed of four Greek columns with two statues—Mars, god of war, and Minerva, goddess of wisdom. Listed as a historic monument, it impresses with its dimensions: 13.50 meters high and 11.50 meters wide. All these sights are must-sees in Toulon, a city brimming with secrets to discover!
