Chios by private jet Estimated flight time from Paris : 3h25
Located in the Aegean Sea, Chios offers contrasting landscapes — rugged mountains to the north, fertile lands to the south, and stunning beaches throughout. It’s an unparalleled place for relaxation and exploration.
Chios is particularly famous for its castle and Turkish baths. The earliest traces of the castle date back to the 14th century. Its imposing and mysterious walls form an enclosure with numerous bastions. The restored Turkish baths are also especially impressive and well worth a visit.
The culture and history of Chios are closely linked to the production of mastic, which is produced exclusively here. In the southern part of the island, among the mastic tree fields, the Genoese built about twenty fortified villages during the 15th and 16th centuries, known as the mastichochoria. Visiting Chios means exploring these remarkable hamlets in the south of the island.
Their houses, built side by side, form continuous outer walls that give the villages the appearance of fortresses. Once inside, the narrow alleys form a labyrinth winding through the mastic trees.
One of the most remarkable places is Pyrghi, a superb fortified village with narrow streets lined by homes decorated with xysta—gray-and-white geometric patterns made from stone and lime. The village’s central square is filled with café terraces where you can rest and admire the local architecture. The façades are beautifully adorned with plant and animal motifs, often extending up to the balconies.

A few kilometers from Pyrghi lies the village of Olymbi, often overlooked by tourists, exuding the Greece of yesteryear, where time seems to have stood still. Olymbi features a maze-like architecture leading to the central square, dominated by a fortress tower. In the evening, locals gather on the terraces to enjoy the sunset.
