Born from an Italian-European desire to develop the aviation industry, ATR (Avion de Transport Régional) is now owned by the Airbus group and the second-largest Italian industrial group, Leonardo.

The ATR story began in 1981 with the entry into service of their first aircraft, the ATR 42.

This aircraft, designed for passenger transport, is a twin turboprop designed to be light, easy to maintain, and easy to fly.

With a view to continuous evolution, several versions of the ATR 42 have followed one another, each presenting numerous areas for improvement.

In 1989, following the commercial success of its first aircraft, ATR decided to build a stretched version of the ATR 42 capable of accommodating around thirty additional passengers.

To date, ATR has sold more than 1,200 aircraft worldwide and is the manufacturer of an aircraft that is popular and used by more than 200 airlines.
